Advanced Force Measurement Solutions for Water Infrastructure

Water management is central to increasing global water resources. Force measurement solutions, often operating behind the infrastructure scenes, are vital to maintaining sustainable and efficient water systems.

These force, torque, and weighing tools provide valuable insights into these systems, enabling operators to make informed decisions and optimising management controls.

  • Load Cells: Measure forces and weights in various applications, including monitoring water levels in tanks and reservoirs.
  • Torque Transducers: Measure torque in rotating machinery, such as pumps and valves.
  • Load Pins: Measure forces in critical structural components, such as dam spillways.
  • Multi-Axis Sensors: Measure forces and moments in multiple directions, providing a comprehensive understanding of loads on structures.
  • Wireless Sensors and Instrumentation: Enables remote monitoring and control of force measurement systems.

Applications :

  • Water Infrastructure and Automation: Monitoring forces within water distribution systems and treatment plants to ensure optimal performance.
  • Flood Control and Dam Management: Measuring water levels and pressures to prevent flooding and ensure the safe operation of dams.
  • Leak Detection and Prevention: Identifying leaks early on to minimize water loss and prevent damage to infrastructure.
  • Pump and Valve Optimization: Ensuring efficient operation and preventing damage to pumps and valves.
  • Water Release and Spillway Monitoring: Controlling water flow and preventing overflow in reservoirs and dams.

These force sensors provide real-time data that empowers water management professionals to make informed decisions. During flood events, real-time force data can trigger flood warnings and guide decisions about dam operations.

Reservoir Dam Spillway Gate Monitor and Regulator

A dam spillway gate monitors and controls water flow from a reservoir. A monitoring system is needed to detect any potential malfunctions or failures from the gate, which could result in a disastrous release of water downstream. The TSCF C-Face Flange Torque Transducer can directly measure the torque of the dam’s motor, which is connected to controlling the movement of the gates. The TSCF can detect any problems the motors may have when opening and closing the spillway gate. Results are read and monitored using the 9850 Torque Transducer and Load Cell Indicator.

Flood Control

A water management operation must monitor and be notified if a concrete dam has reached high flooding levels. Interface WMC Miniature Sealed Stainless Steel Load Cells, which have multiple WTS-AM-1E Wireless Acquisition Modules connected to them, are small and perfect for measuring tension and compression. Multiple WMCs can be installed around the arch of the dam, so when flooding occurs, the WMC can transmit data and notify the customer through one of our Wireless Telemetry Systems.

Safety and Efficiency

In addition to environmental protection, public safety is a top priority in water management. Force sensors at strategic points can detect even small leaks, enabling rapid repairs and preventing costly damage and water loss. In hydroelectric power plants, Interface’s force sensors measure the forces of flowing water on turbine blades, ensuring efficient energy generation and preventing damage to equipment.

Help manage water systems’ safety, efficiency, and sustainability. From monitoring water levels to optimising pump performance and preventing leaks, these solutions provide the data and insights needed to make informed decisions and keep our water resources flowing smoothly.

In the face of growing water scarcity, force measurement solutions enable communities, municipalities, and governments to manage this precious resource effectively and sustainably.
