Impedance analysers measure complex electrical impedance as a function of frequency. Impedance is the opposition to alternating current presented by the combined effect of resistance and reactance in a circuit. Analysis involves the phase-sensitive measurement of current and voltage applied to a device under test while the measurement frequency is varied throughout the measurement. Key specifications of an impedance analyser are the frequency range, absolute impedance accuracy,  impedance range, and phase angle accuracy.

    Impedance Analysis Package - Overview

    The Impedance Analysis Interface is an optional measurement interface intended to be used with the PSM1700 and PSM1735 to form a high-accuracy Impedance Analyser. The IAI provides all of the functionality of the LCR Active Head but with a wider frequency and impedance measurement range plus higher nominal accuracy. This is achieved by a more sophisticated design that includes an additional internal shunt range, a current amplifier to increase low impedance signal levels and calibration together with the PSM1700/PSM1735 with which it will be used. Applications include passive component analysis and detailed wideband characterisation (capacitors, inductors and resistors), material analysis (corrosion, surface finish analysis etc), electrochemical impedance analysis (battery/cell as well as general electrochemistry), biomedical applications, cable impedance measurements and Input/Output Impedance Measurement of Sub Circuits.

    Impedance Analysis Package - Overview

    The IAI2 converts the PSM3750 units into high-performance LCR meters with true 4-wire Kelvin connections that are taken directly to the component without the need for external shunts. Buffering, amplification, and selectable shunts provide LCR measurements over a wide frequency and impedance range. This Impedance Analyzer allows for a wider frequency and impedance measurement range plus higher nominal accuracy. The IAI2 features 4 internal shunts plus an internal high-frequency amplifier. The combination of the PSM3750 and the IAI2 offers a comprehensive measurement suite.
